Bluehost REVIEW - Best Server for your New Business
With over 20,000 new customers a month, Bluehost must be doing something right. But beyond essential stats like that what makes Bluehost unique and different from the throngs of other web server hosting options?
One interesting feature is their resource protection:
Bluehost.com developed a proprietary solution for the problems shared web hosting can cause. Shared hosting is the cheapest option for your business but it's like being on a ship with a whole bunch of other users. If one dude goes psycho your pleasure cruise becomes the Titanic. In other words the actions of one rogue user affects everyone in the system.
In consideration of this Bluehost actually took the time to develop a system that operates like a VPS (virtual private server… i.e. your own yacht) but is available to regular users completely free. This is very cool and something I haven't seen other companies offer. If you're concerned about protecting your website but don't have the resources yet to do VPS or cloud hosting, Bluehost's basic program makes sure you're protected. So kudos to them for taking the time to develop a meaningful resource for their basic users that distinguishes them from the other companies out there.
User friendly control panel demo:
This is something I haven't seen many other companies provide. You can actually take a look at all the functions on the control panel you will be using everyday! This is AWESOME! Why? Because frequently, you sign up for a service and don't have any sense of how the back office is organized… yet that's where you're going to be spending your time! It's crazy when you think of it. All companies should offer this option but they don't. Another gold star for Bluehost.
Some other valuable features Bluehost provides:
Yes, of course they have excellent 24/7 US based phone support which they need to have to stay competitive. They also have their own technology which is another important distinction. That means if something goes wrong there is one central place to fix it which is optimal. A lot of web hosting companies outsource and that can lead to lengthy resolutions for hosting problems as well as less reliability.
So what's their rep in the forums?
Checking out ripoff report and the forums, on ripoff, there were 4 negative reviews in total, one of which was blank. Nothing scary... three disgruntled and frustrated former customers whose stories were not compelling enough to raise any eyebrows. They described very specific conflicts, such as a free domain name they had paid for years ago which led to an outstanding bill of $10 they claimed they didn't owe. One had the sense reading each of the cases that incomplete information was given and that the person had probably gotten caught in the vortex of contract minutia that can trap you with any hosting provider.
I've certainly found myself enraged at times with my own service, but you can spend your life getting caught in that trap and it ends up being just a big distraction from running a successful business. Basically, choose your battles and don't sweat the small stuff. Technology and contract fine points can get tedious and frustrating. Bluehost stands up to the test. Elsewhere on the web in unbiased forums Bluehost gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Stats, not stories tell the real story:
I've found in general that when it comes to customer reviews, stories are compelling and speak to our fears and concerns but stats are more significant. They tell you the true track record of the company. Stories engage your allegiance and freak you out but stats tell the real story. Why? Because if the majority of customers favorably review a product that puts the one or two unfavorable reviews into a balanced perspective. The challenge is that our emotions get engaged when someone is on a tear. We find it frightening and react from that place forgetting to maintain perspective. As far as stats go, Bluehost is above average, consistent and reliable.
So there you have it. I would definitely recommend checking out the bluehost.com online demo site to get a feel for it. The only way to know if a company is for you is by your first hand user experience. If you're looking for a webhost with consistently excellent stats I'd recommend Arvixe.com. At $4.00/month, their price per month is also cheaper than Bluehost's $4.95.
