Review Snapshot

Easy to use, affordable and has many features.

The opening in the bench (where it folds up) is uncomfortable for some, especially taller people.

It's a great exercise piece for an affordable price and those with limited space for large, bulky gear.

Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Bench Is a Great Home Workout Tool

Iíve been hearing about Bowflex for many years, but the Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Bench Series 5.1 was the first piece of Bowflex equipment that Iíve purchased.† While I found other exercise benches that were quite a bit cheaper, after doing some comparison shopping I found this one to be the best value, and paid a little over $200 for it.

This bench feels a lot sturdier than others that I tried. It doesnít move around or wiggle while youíre on it, even when pressing out your maximum weight. While itís not something I have to worry about, this bench can hold 300 pounds in addition to another 180 pounds of weight. The steel on the Bowflex is very strong, which obviously makes it even more stable. Despite the fact the bench has wheels on it, there isnít a problem with those moving around while youíre trying to lift weights either.

In addition, while Iím shorter than the average person, this bench is significantly longer than many of the others at 56 inches long, which should accommodate a rather tall person as well.†

Bowflex is so sure of quality of their bench that they offer a 30-year warranty. You have to like that!

I found this bench extremely comfortable, so much so that I can imagine lying down on it to practice meditation. I have heard from others who are well over six feet tall, that the opening on the bench where it folds up is in a bad place for them and it can be uncomfortable.

Anyone who knows how to use a screwdriver should be able to put this together without a problem.

Adjustable bench

The adjustable bench can be left at an even incline or taken to 30, 45, 60 or a 90 degree angle which helps you get every angle of your core for a great ab workout. You can also adjust so that your spine is more comfortable during heavier lifting. I really like this feature as it allows you to work many different muscles, while most benches I found had only four different positions compared to the six with Bowflex.

I love the leg support as it allows you to perform a number of different exercises to tone and strengthen your legs as well.† The leg extensions really feel like gym quality extensions compared to other home benches. The weights attached can even be utilized to burn calories, making the Bowflex and ideal piece of equipment for a full-body workout.

Simple to use

The Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Bench Series 5.1 is very simple to use, making me more motivated to workout. You donít have to have a lot of physical strength to use it, which is a big plus for smaller females like me. Itís also simple to adjust as well as being able to support all kinds of free weight exercises.

Product Features

  • Transform any space into a personal free weight fitness center
  • Adjusts to six different positions, 17-degree decline to 90-degree incline
  • Comes with a removable leg hold-down brace for added decline position support
  • Corrects posture and stabilizes positioning for a safe, muscle-building free-weight workout
  • 30-Year warranty on frame, one-year warranty on upholstery

While this bench may not be the perfect piece of equipment for everyone, it does the job for me and I would not hesitate to purchase it if I had it to do all over again. The bench and set of dumbbells give a great full-body workout that can be performed in a very small place, making it perfect even for those with small apartments.

If I could change one thing, it might be that they add a place to put the dumbbells, but this is not a big issue. Overall, I feel if youíre looking for a versatile workout bench, this is a fine choice. From the quick assembly time to the high quality look and feel, this is a very good well-rounded piece of fitness equipment, well worth the money paid.
