Why the Britax B-Safe Infant Car Seat Is a Great Choice

One of the most important pieces of equipment you’ll need for your newborn is a car seat, and as a mother to five, I wanted to make sure baby would be especially safe for the ride home from the hospital as well as any other excursions we’d need to make in the car. While I’ve had lots of experience with car seats in my lifetime, it had been a few years since I’d had to purchase one, so I went after this endeavor at full gusto – researching reviews and speaking with as many new moms as possible.

After already choosing the Britax B-Ready Stroller, it only made sense to consider their car seat as well. The company is known as the makers of the highest quality car seats in the market. Britax already had the very popular Chaperone car seat, but this version includes their best safety features at about a $50 savings, and it also fits better in our car.

Weight

The B-Safe version infant car seat is slightly lighter than the Chaperone, at 30 pounds, although it’s still big enough to accommodate a growing baby up until 12 months of age. To keep your child safe at the various stages of his growth, the seat consists of about four yoke heights and two buckle positions. Your infant can safely use the seat until he is 32 inches in height, or his head is an inch from the top of the shell.

While some users have complained that it’s still a bit heavy, we’ve haven’t found that it is overly so, and I even consider it a form a light weight lifting -might as well kill two birds with one stone, right? We call them “mommy workouts”.

Safety

Keeping your precious newborn safe while riding in the car is, of course, the most important aspect of all. The B-Safe infant car seat includes side impact protection which reduces the risk of injury and protects baby from vehicle collisions by equally dispensing the crash forces and acts like a protective cocoon from head to toe.

Fortunately, this is an aspect that we’ve not had the displeasure of testing in real life and hope to never have to!

Fit and comfort

Thanks to the infant padding that’s provided, this is an ideal seat for even the tiniest babies. The biggest challenge I had with my youngest daughter was the fact that she weighed just at five pounds, and I ended up having to surround her with blankets to get her to fit snugly inside her car seat. If only I’d had the B-Safe seat then! The head and body pads are removable for older babies. This car seat will really grow with your child and remain comfortable and safe, removing the need to buy another car seat after only six months or so.

The seat also includes a large multi-position canopy that blocks the rain, wind and even harmful UV rays from baby’s sensitive skin. So there’s another point for form and function. As a parent, you just can’t beat all the features for the low price point.

Fabric and functionality

I love the fabric on this seat. Car seats tend to get dirty very easily, and the fabric cleans either than most. I recommend getting the black colored fabric as it also hides dirt better. It wipes down easily with a damp cloth in between regular washings.

Downside?

The only real negative to this seat is the straps do tend to become twisted and tangled rather easily, which can be a bit of a headache.

Price

Priced at just over $100, this is a really good deal.

Overall, I feel like the B-Safe was an excellent choice and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the same brand again. I’m not planning on having any more children but I will recommend this to my friends and family.

I was using the graco snugride I had used with my previous child, but since I had the Britax B Ready stroller I needed to purchase the carseat adaptor for the snugride. As this carseat has a higher weight limit than the snugride and could snap into the B Ready stroller I decided to splurge on this and I'm very happy I did.
