Canon 70 200 2.8 - Canon's best 70 - 200 zoom lens

If you want the ultimate Canon 70 – 200 zoom lens you are going to have to buy the awesome Canon 70 200 2.8, a lens which not only has a focal range of 70mm – 200mm but also has a constant 2.8 maximum aperture through the entire focal range. The Canon 70 200 2.8 is a professional grade zoom lens so it has superior optics and glass. Like all professional grade tele lenses the Canon 70 200 2.8 is white in colour, which looks great but can also create some unwanted attention, which isn’t so good. Fortunately you can buy a coloured lens jacket to hide the fact you have an expensive Canon lens attached to your camera.

The Canon 70 200 f2.8, like all Canon professional grade lenses, is tough and built to last. I have used mine on dusty race circuits, out in the wilderness, in sub zero temperatures, in blazing sunshine and out on the water and I have never had any problems with it. The Canon 70 200 f2.8 is lens that is built to last.

The 2.8 maximum aperture is impressive and makes this a fast lens, which you need to keep high shutter speeds in low light conditions. Because the Canon 70 200 2.8 is such a fast lens most photographers buy the Canon 70 200 2.8 for sports photography, where is used for capturing photographs outside where the ambient light is good and also indoors where the ambient light levels may not be as good.

Obviously, you can use the Canon 70 200 2.8 for other types of photography, such as landscapes, wildlife and as a general walkabout lens however there are more efficient alternatives. A maximum aperture of 2.8 isn’t really needed for general photography so having such a fast lens is a bit of a waste. The Canon 70 200 f2.8 lens is expensive so this would also be a waste of money. If you don’t need a fast zoom lens the best option is the Canon 70 200 f4, which is just as good optically but not as fast and nowhere near as expensive.

The image quality of the Canon 70 200 f2.8 is simply stunning, but given this is a professional grade Canon lens this is to be expected. Colours are bright and punchy, but still realistic and there is good contrast throughout. Images can sometimes be a little soft when shot wide open (but you need a real critical eye to notice) but when it is stopped down by half a stop the images become tack sharp. The Canon 70 200 f.8 lens is a top performer.

The Canon 70 200 2.8 lens is available with or without image stabilisation, and the cost of the lens depends on which one you choose. The lens with image stabilisation is obviously more expensive and whether the additional cost is worth it depends on individual circumstances and requirements. As well as being more expensive the lens with image stabilisation is heavier and more cumbersome, so you also have to keep this in mind before deciding which Canon 70 200 2.8 lens to buy.

What is the best Canon 70 200 f2.8? The answer to this depends entirely on your specific circumstances. If you shoot a lot of indoor sports, such as basketball, volleyball and the like, the Canon 70 200 f2.8 with image stabilisation technology is the Canon 70 200 2.8 lens to buy since many indoor arenas won’t allow the use of tripods or monopods, which means you have to take shots hand held and the image stabilisation will help you use slower shutter speeds and not be hampered by camera shake. If you shoot a lot of outdoor sports, such as motorsports and football, you can use either Canon 70 200 f2.8 lens, although the most cost effective (and hence recommended) is the Canon 70 200 f2.8 lens without image stabilisation since the only time you are likely to need it is during the most miserable days and as daylight turns to dusk.

If you are in to your sports and wildlife photography where you need a fast lens to keep shutter speeds high the only Canon 70 – 200 lens for you is the Canon 70 200 2.8. Whether you need image stabilisation or not depends entirely on what you shoot, but one thing I would say is that if you don’t need image stabilisation don’t buy the Canon 70 – 200 2.8 with it as the additional technology is a lot more money.

It doesn’t matter whether you buy the Canon 70 – 200 2. 8 with or without image stabilisation, the fact is both variants are awesome Canon lenses. Both models are tough and durable, both models have exceptional image quality and both models are top lenses that you will be more than happy with.
