Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 Travel System Review From: Chicco

Pros
This product is extremely safe, available in many colors/styles and the stroller/car seat combo saves time and money.

Cons
The drink holder for adults is a bit shallow and the stroller storage area might not hold a large diaper bag.

Verdict
The Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 is a great product made by a well respected company and if you are expecting a new child or have an infant needing a travel system, this is a great choice.

Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30: Is It Worth The Price?

I know a thing or two about strollers. I have 4 children right now and another little girl due in September. Naturally the wife and I have been doing the stroller and car seat hunt around town and on the Internet and a few brands have appeared that were unfamiliar. One of these was Chicco. I honestly don't remember seeing Chicco brand strollers and car seats just 4 years ago when my last child was born. I wish I had, however, because this company has the #1 rated infant car seat being sold right now and that's something you don't overlook.

I test drove probably a dozen strollers and fiddled with at least that many car seats on my last baby shopping excursion. We weren't expecting a new one so had gotten rid of our old baby stuff a while ago. We're starting from scratch and you should expect more baby item reviews from me in the coming weeks and months.

The Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 is a "travel system" and that means it's got the Cortina stroller bundled with the Keyfit 30 infant car seat and base. You keep the base in your car and you can pop the car seat in and out whenever you like. It attaches securely to the stroller and is actually very stable. Some brands tend to get a little top heavy but I didn't feel that when using this. I used my 3 year old to help me judge how well the Chiccol Cortina Keyfit 30 would work over time. The wheels rolled nicely, it wasn't too hard to push and everything was just how it should be with an upscale stroller/car seat unit.

One thing I immediately noticed was the adult drink holder by the push bar but I don't think it's quite deep enough. I set a bottle of water in it and the odds of it staying there is pretty slim. The baby has plenty of room for snacks and a bottle or sippie cup if using the stroller part only. If you're using both, I wouldn't set the baby bottle in the adult drink holder. Keep it in a bag underneath. The under-seat mesh where you can store diaper bags isn't terribly large either so if you buy this travel system, keep the diaper bag fairly small or simply buy one while you're out with the stroller.

I live in an area without a lot of sidewalks unfortunately so wheels are extremely important to me. I can't stand those small umbrella strollers because they usually just won't work at all. The Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 rolled smoothly around the store's carpet and linoleum and upon inspecting the wheels, they are large enough to work for most people. This is not a jogging or off-road stroller.

The Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 Comes With:

The Car Seat - The #1 safety rated car seat in the US as of 2012. The Keyfit 30 holds up to 30 pound infants.

5-Point Harness - The car seat has a great 5-point harness and that's recommended for any infants.

Easy Latch - One-pull latch system to easily insert and remove the car seat into the base or stroller.

EPS Energy Absorbing Foam - This is built into the carseat and is both safe and comfortable. I'd like this foam in my car's adult seats.

The Car Seat Base - Keep it in your car, fully secured unless you swap vehicles for transportation. Easy to use.

Cortina Stroller - This is a very nice stroller that's also light and folds up relatively small. Easy to transport and rolls smoothly.

User Testimonials

After spending a lot of time testing strollers in store, this one was absolutely my choice. My husband and I are both very tall and this is so comfortable to push around relative to height. I was actually delighted by how light the car seat/carrier was, and I thought the fold up was a breeze compared to some of the bulky Gracos we tested.

We are expecting our first baby and after researching and researching we decided on this stroller and car seat. We love it! Our son isn't born yet but it was really easy to put together and it is made very sturdy and we couldn't expect more! Can't wait to put our little boy in it when he arrives!

The Bottom Line

The Chicco Cortina Keyfit 30 is a top notch stroller/car seat travel system and if you're an experienced parent or a new parent, you simply can't overlook how safe the carseat is. Chicco has done an amazing job reaching the #1 safety rating and hopefully other companies will follow with some of their unique designs in the future. The Keyfit 30 model covers everything from a tiny infant up to 30 pounds but it's a tad larger than other Keyfit models. Better safe than sorry, always go a bit larger than you think.
