Review Snapshot
Pros

Fantastic picture quality and price are the two greatest things about this projector. It also works quietly and Epson provides great customer service when needed.

Cons

I really have had no problems with this product so far. Some online have said that they had defective units but that is normal in this field of products.

Verdict

This is undoubtedly one of the best products on the market for its price point. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

REVIEW: Epson PowerLite 8350 (Home Cinema Projector)

When it comes to projectors, it is very tough to find a model that everyone agrees on. I was in the market for one and started searching around for one that was universally loved. I never found that Holy Grail of projectors and it was not for lack of effort on my part. The Epson PowerLite 8350 was the projector that I ended up with because it was the closest thing to what I wanted that was still in my price range. I am very glad that I made that decision, so let me say that upfront. It has been a great product for me and I would buy it again given the same choice. That said, it has not been perfect. Keep in mind as you read this that I did not base this review purely on my own experiences, but also on others reviews I have found on the web. Because I want a well-rounded group of opinions, I felt that was the fairest way to do this particular review.

Picture Quality

Regardless of what the specs and so on say, the picture quality when it is on the wall or home movie screen is the bottom line to me with projectors. I can honestly say that the Epson PowerLite is the best picture quality I have ever seen among projectors at this price point. I would say, in fact, that the picture quality would rival those that are higher priced as well. The sharpness and brightness is solid in daytime or nighttime viewing, and you never find yourself straining to look at the picture. Does it look better in total darkness? Sure it does. Does it look bad in daytime hours? No, it does not. Both ways are solid and true to the 1080p TFT D7 chip and a contrast ratio up to 50,000:1 promise that the product makes. It is that dang good and few reviews I have read dispute that fact either.

The color is so rich and vibrant that you sometimes have to look twice to make sure it is not a flat screen. I was stunned from the first look and it does not degrade very much at all when you go larger. The picture quality is solid at every size.

What about lamp burnout?

The lamps are designed to last around 4000 hours and there are some complaints online about them burning out early. I have not experienced that yet, but of those that did few was far short of the 4000 hours. One person mentioned that his burned out at around 300 hours and that he called customer service. He was outside of his warranty, but they still sent him a new bulb. It was obvious that this was the exception rather than the norm. My lamps are as strong as ever and I have around 2600 hours so far give or take.

What about that horrible hum?

When I was a kid, we had this family that lived down the street from my Uncle that owned a projector. They would have all the kids over on Wednesday nights for movie night with the projector. What stands out to me about that memory was the horrible loud humming that was coming from the projector. Most of them do that even today, though they are not nearly as loud as they were back then. Back then you could not hear the movie over the hum at times depending on where you were sitting. My Epson PowerLite has no such loud noises. Unless you are sitting right next to it you will not even likely hear it running. That is a great feature for an inexpensive projector like this.

What about Flexibility?

This projector does everything you would want with a projector. From all the traditional uses to the latest in technology with two HDMI ports, the Epson has you covered if you need video of any kind. This projector is the best investment I have made in a very long time as far as value. I can do so many things with it including my own parties. A gaming party takes on a whole new meaning with this thing.

Do others who bought it agree?

I have researched this product heavily both before and after purchase, and it appears that the vast majority agree with me totally. The Epson PowerLine is a solid buy that has few if any real cons. A few folks complained that it gave them trouble quickly, but it appears they are the exception by far. This product is solid and a fantastic purchase, and I tend to be picky overall. To me it is a far better buy overall than the Epson 5010 or the Optoma HD20. Some might agree and others might disagree but to me it is a clear victory for the 8350.

This item is getting my highest rating and I don't give them out easily.
