Review Snapshot

It is full of great features to track your own data and keep you motivated with fitness goals. It is great to see progress with stats when you may not necessarily be seeing them in your body yet.

The automatic syncing range is only 15ft, it would be nice if this was a little longer.

This is a great piece of equipment that will help you track your fitness and weight loss goals while keeping you motivated.

Review of the Fitbit Ultra Wireless Activity Plus Sleep Tracker

Tracking your activity and calorie input is a great way towards becoming more aware of your body and how it functions. The Fitbit Ultra device allows you to track multiple activities, including sleep, and with the use of software it allows you to input your daily calories. After a couple of weeks of using this device you will be able to see a pattern in your behavior and then alter that to reach your goals.

The Fitbit Ultra device itself is very small and portable. It can be put on a belt, in a pocket or even clipped on a sports bra. The size and weight of the device make it very compact and discrete and you (and others) will only realize you are wearing it when you bring it out to look at your data.

What Does the Fitbit Ultra Track?

To make things simple this is a list of what the Fitbit Ultra is able to track:
  • How much sleep you get
  • How many times you woke in the night
  • Steps taken
  • Distance covered
  • Flights of stairs taken
  • Calories burnt

When you are out and about it is easy to quickly check your progress for the day. Simply bring out the Fitbit Ultra and look at the display screen, it is able to immediately give you the steps taken, distance covered, flights of stairs taken and calories burnt. By using this quick display option you can easily assess whether or not you will make you goals for the day and if necessary make any adjustments to your routine so that you can make your goals.

The quick display option is also a great way to stay on track. If you have a goal to walk 10,000 steps per day (5 miles) and at one point you're feeling particularly lazy you can either check the display and get your motivation back or you could disappoint yourself and miss your goal (we all know that you wont make those steps up later, it just never happens).

What Does the Software Track?

The software is great to use and also comes with an auto-syncing mechanism which uploads the data from the Fitbit Ultra to your computer whenever they get to within 15 ft of each other. The software itself helps to keep you motivated because you can see your stats in black and white (they're actually in color, it's just a turn of phrase) and see whether you are improving or not. The goals feature is also great as you can customize it to your own needs. The software is also very handy and has some neat features to it as well:
  • Calories eaten with percentages of protein, carbs, and fat
  • Calories in vs calories out
  • Stats and graphs of your data from the Fitbit gadget
  • Monitor goals
  • Participate in the community
  • Earn badges
  • It's free

Why I Recommend the Fitbit Ultra

Of all the benefits that I have mentioned my favorite would have to be the calories burnt in a day with the sleep tracker coming in a close second. From what I've seen the Fitbit Ultra is fairly accurate with it's data which is very beneficial in calculating your figures for weight loss and other fitness goals.

All of these features ultimately keep me motivated and to have them all in one little device and a free piece of software is very encouraging. I like to be able to set mini and long term goals and use fitness gadgets to help me meet them, which I can do very well with the Fitbit Ultra.
