"The HandCrafter's Companion" by Jane Church - REVIEW

Have you ever walked past one of those 'home-made' type soap stores, with delicious (and sometimes overpowering!) smells wafting out into the street?
Bath bombs, soaps, home fragrances, creams... these can all be easily made at home, according to Jane Church, the 'Spa Queen'.
She has compiled the Handcrafter's Companion, an e-Book that shows you how to create spa-quality products, both for you and your family or, if you choose, to sell.
Organized into 'product recipes', the companion is a full reference collection detailing step-by-step methods for creating high quality spa-type products.
Busy day? Hectic life? Come home to your own restful retreat and relax with rejuvenating home-made products. After all the Spa industry is the fourth largest leisure industry in the US.
And you're not the only one who is looking for a spa experience... The Handcrafter's Companion explains how you can extend your hobby and build your own product line: bath salts, exfoliating scrubs, moisturizing lotions and balms; the list is as long as your imagination.
As well as the recipes and product formulations, The Handcrafter's Companion contains information and advice on how to brand, package and market your range.
The products include: handcrafted soaps - 'from classic recipes to deliciously different versions'; bath teas and soaks; professional quality spa treatments 'for pennies on the dollar'; bubble baths and bath bombs - you too can have rose petals floating through the delicious bubbles in your bath!; butters, lotions and creams; home fragrance products, aromatherapy blends and potpourri.
Now you may be wondering how much of this information is available free on the internet. Well Jane Church is adamant that 'you'll never  find anything like this rich collection of hand-picked recipes and original ideas.'
So if it's ideas that you're lacking then this could be the e-book for you.
Including a 'quick-start' guide for the beginner; advice on your work area, cautionary advice on ingredients, labeling (to comply with FDA regulations), branding, colors and even pricing for those who are thinking of turning this fragrant hobby into a business.
Jane Church also includes a source and supply lists - however it should be noted that these cover the USA only.
The price for this e-book is $27 'so small to pay for so much fun...' as one website endorser says.
And it seems that soap making is a very popular activity, with active discussion forums and enthusiastic proponents very willing to discuss their experiences and ideas - check them out if this hobby appeals to you.
There weren't many independent reviews of this product available but I did find some:
'I can recommend a very helpful e-book "The Handcrafter's Companion". There are many recipes, not just homemade soap,' said one.
And other websites are also complimentary:
'With detailed instructions on packaging and marketing your products, the many spa enthusiasts that put this course together have given you everything to make your business professional in every way.'
And the advice on products to avoid for certain conditions is recommended:
'The Handcrafter's Companion has some great tips for optional variations with most recipes, what to stay away from if you have high blood pressure or plan on expanding your family.'
If you are the sort of person who loves making 'treat' type presents and is happiest surrounded by own-design labels, gorgeous smells, ribbons, bows and wrappings then The Handcrafter's Companion could be for you.
And if you make any of the recipes post your thoughts on a forum! It would be great to see how the products have turned out for individual crafters.
