Idol White (Teeth Whitening Gel Pens) REVIEW - Here's what we found...
And naturally, we want to spend our hard-earned cash on essential treatment rather than cosmetic dentistry.
So home whitening options are attractive.
And now they come in user-friendly forms such as the Idol White Teeth Whitening Pen.
For a 'brighter and whiter celebrity smile'.
According to surveys over 80% of Americans aged 18-49 want whiter teeth.
Well, we're hardly going to say we want yellower teeth are we?
Even the Brits, famous for their wonky, chipped, less-than-perfect teeth, know that yellowing teeth are off-putting (and I'm a Brit so I should know!)
'Professional results at home,' say Idol White. 'Safe and easy to use. Applies in seconds.'
Now as you may know, teeth come in a range of colors - anyone who has had a cap, crown or veneer will know that dentists have a color matching chart used to make sure your crown blends in.
But yellowing is caused by staining: from tobacco, coffee, red wine and other foods.
No amount of brushing will remove these stains.
So will Idol White?
Lets look at the ingredients.
Glycerin is a carrier, that 'delivers teeth whitening agents deep into the enamel.' Then there is Hydrogen Peroxide. A bleaching agent, and 'an extremely gentle acid,' say Idol White
Carbomer is another teeth whitening agent (i.e. bleach) that 'unlocks your teeth's whitest color.'
Plus some peppermint and sweetener for taste.
The ingredients are much the same as any other whitener. These two peroxides are commonly found in teeth whitening products and are also widely used by dentists who practice tooth bleaching.
So there's nothing really unique about the product. However the pen system does seem to make use of the product easier. You just brush, apply the pen and wait.
And customers agree.
'Looks like teeth whitening pens are the way to go these days. They are alot easier, hassle free, faster to use,' said one.
The concept is to ‘write’ your teeth white again. There is no mess, and you can also be quite precise when applying it which helps to cover the whole surface area of the teeth.
So, lets see what the customers say about this product.
'I absolutely love it,' said one. 'I've been using it twice a day for about 3 weeks now and I've noticed a significant improvement in the color of my teeth. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone!'
However I also found diametrically opposed reviews.
'After using this for three weeks religiously I found absolutely no change in the color of my teeth. Not only visually but also taking photos every three days...each pictures taken under the same lighting conditions and position. After comparing the pictures in an image editor using web standard hex color codes, there was evidence of a change in color but it was minimal.'
So it doesn't work for everyone.
But it does have the right ingredients in to whiten your teeth and many people have found that it works.
'This is the best product I have ever used, economical yet useful.'
Although users agree that it might take time to see that 'celebrity' whiteness.
The product seems to work best if your teeth are on the yellow side of the spectrum. Teeth that are naturally more blue may not show good results. Also crowns veneers, or fillings won’t get any whiter from any whitening products or procedures.
And pregnant women, children under 16 and nursing mothers should not use this product. Check with your doctor or dentist. Products are not FDA approved.
Also, you should be aware that some customers are less than happy with the special offers and 'free unlimited refill' offers advertised by this company.
Idol White do state in their customer agreement the amounts they will be charging after the trial period is over.
This is one customer experience:
'Beware Idol White! It saw what looked like a personal testimonial for the product and a trial order for about $6. Went through the ordering process and got a confirmation that my order shipped and I would be charged $6. WHen I saw my Visa bill it included another charge for $80...'
So read the agreement very carefully if you take up the free or 'shipping only' offer. You must cancel the subscription before the trial period ends otherwise your card will be charged.
And some people think the monthly charges are expensive.
'The product works... maybe an overpriced product, but overall I'm happy with the purchase.'
So I guess it depends on how much you are prepared to pay for whiter teeth.
And whether it works for you - which you can test. 'So, would I recommend Idol White? Yes, but see how you get on with the free trial first before commiting to a full purchase. Idol White is very effective for most people, but if you don’t have great results with it then there is no point shelling out full price for it!'
The words of one reviewer - I couldn't agree more.
And, make sure you cancel in time if the product doesn't work for you!
