Solidly designed, with a real world feel and compatibility with most games available for PS3 or PC.Cons
Too many cables!Verdict
The Logitech G27 is a great racing wheel for someone who is ready to buy their first. On the other hand, as an upgrade to its predecessor (the G25), there aren't really enough new features to justify the expense.
REVIEW: Logitech G27 Racing Wheel (PC, PS3) + Shifter & Pedals
The Logitech G27 features a leather-wrapped steering wheel loaded with two butterfly shifters and six thumb buttons. Floor pedals include a clutch to make the manual short-shifter seem more like the real deal. It is designed to be compatible with both PC and PS3. But how does it stack up compared to the other wheels on the market?
The Logitech G27 has received a great deal of attention on the web, from users with all levels of experience with both real and virtual cars. Overall, they love this wheel – with some caveats. The mass of cables that come packaged with the system are almost universally despised for the clutter and confusion they create. Early adopters of the G27 were also running up against compatibility issues and bugs that seem to have been corrected in newer releases.
The wheel itself is an excellent match for real world physics and the force feedback even makes accidental take-offs and landings feel as jarring as they would be on some deserted back road where no one would arrest you for reckless driving. The RPM indicator is also a big hit. The pedals and shifter are well constructed, with a very solid feel and weight. The pedals may be a bit problematic for people with larger feet or who cannot set them up permanently, however, since they seem to be set just a little bit too close together. Logitech claims they are adjustable, but clearly not adjustable enough.
“The materials and build quality are top notch. The wheel is wrapped in genuine leather and the wheel is made out of brushed stainless steel. The shifter boot and shift knob are also wrapped in leather which is a nice feature. The clamps are great at securing the wheel and shifter to various surfaces. Both the shifter and the wheel have permanent mounts which are great of you don't plan on moving the wheel at all. The pedals unfortunately do not have a good system to keep them in place except the permanent mounts. At times, the amount of wires can be a nuisance to deal with. It is easier to deal with if you have the wheel permanently mounted.” ~ C. Bishop-Wright “Curry”, Amazon.com user
“it has its good and bad. I liked the H pattern shifting of the G25 and miss it! I like the adjustible pedals alot. The new LED tachometer is cool yet their are still too many cables and it would be nice if you could mix the G25 steering wheel with the G27 pedals. Also the new buttons cause complications, there in a bad area and need to be closer to the centre or fewer buttons like the G25 which made it alot easier because of accident taps. Strong new paddle shifters are great. Hope Logitechs next models better and an ebrake would be cool :D” ~GripN’Slide, Logitech.com
“The Logitech G27 Racing Wheel is a great wheel. However I don't believe the new features justify an upgrade for current Logitech G25 users. I am giving it 5 stars because it is truly the best force-feedback PC and PS3 racing wheel on the market, but it only ties the G25 which is still available for significantly less money. If you've got money to burn and have to have the latest and greatest then go for the G27, otherwise the G25 is still the best choice while it is still available.” ~Steve McCormick, About.com Guide
