FULL REVIEW: Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse (Razer)
At first, I thought no--but then I took a closer look. Of course, what I'm referring to in this review is the notorious Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse, something you've undoubtedly heard of if you've ever gamed online. Being a hardcore World of Warcraft gamer myself, I depended on my keyboard to input most of the game's actions; using a mouse seemed foreign, and even a bit scary to me. But, after testing it out for myself, I came to a different conclusion.
What is the Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse?
To keep it simple, the Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse is this: A ergonomically-designed mouse with 17 customizable buttons, which allow you to play the game without needing to input commands into the keyboard.
Okay, perhaps that wasn't simple, but in a nutshell, that's exactly what this mouse does. Razer, the manufacturer behind this mouse, created this mouse specifically for online gamers, who use numerous keyboard "macros" to initiate actions, such as attacking or casting magic. If you've ever played a game and tried to keep track of these buttons, it can be a hassle. The other downside is that you're not just initiating actions with your keyboard in a game--you're also typing into chat boxes, and if you're not careful, these commands can get mixed up (and trust me, I know this from experience).
The Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse essentially brings these keyboard macros to the mouse instead, so instead of pressing buttons on the keyboard, you simply click one of the 17 mouse buttons. Not only does it make it more convenient and reduce the risk of misfires, you also won't have to reach as far to initiate these buttons.
For instance, if you wanted to attack, you'd have to take a couple of seconds to find and click on the right button on the keyboard. When this button is on the mouse, you simply feel your mouse for the button and click it--and one or two seconds are saved. This may not seem like a big deal at first, but when you're going against tough bosses where seconds mean the difference between killing the boss or dying yourself, these seconds matter.
Mechanics-wise, the Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse is excellent at what it does--though it's not better than other top brands, such as the Logitech G9X Gaming Mouse. All of its 17 buttons are located in grooves on the side or top of the mouse, making it easier for your hand to naturally feel and click these buttons without much difficulty. To make it easier to grip, it's also covered in a durable rubber coating, so not even the sweatiest of MMORPG sessions can keep you from using your mouse correctly.
Aside from this, this is a very sturdy and reliable mouse. The mouse itself appears to be of high quality; moving the mouse around was easy. However, it can be difficult to hit the buttons on the side of the mouse, mostly because they're just so small--make one wrong move and you might hit the wrong button. This was the only issue with this mouse, however; otherwise, it's a solid device.
What the Customers are Saying
As a gaming mouse, the Naga MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse is loved by both experts and consumers alike. Here is what some of them had to say about this product:
"The mouse feels very high quality. It's very comfortable with good tactile feel. The scroll wheel is the nicest I've ever used."
"I am in love with this mouse. It took awhile to get used to the 12 buttons on the side but now I can't game without them."
"The Razer Naga is by far the best mouse i have ever used as far as MMO gaming goes and i would recommend it to every gamer out there. The buttons are in an easy to access location and using them feels natural."
Although I had my doubts about this mouse, I've now changed my mind: It's actually an excellent gaming mouse. The controls can be hard to use at first (there is a steep learning curve), but aside from this remains a very easy and versatile mouse that will fit most gamers' needs--especially World of Warcraft players.
