SMTP2Go (SMTP2Go.com) Review - What real customers are saying..
It's hard to remember, isn't it? So many of our every day communications are based on firing off a quick question, message, attachment or enquiry.
Everything runs like magic while you're sitting at home or at work with those lovely techies waiting to help you if you run into problems.
But what if you're abroad? Travelling? And what's more you need to work while you're on the move. Or keep in touch with family and friends.
'Server unable to connect' 'Email rejected'... Do memories of messages like these send your heart sinking? Or perhaps small attachments (which usually take 3 seconds) are taking 30 seconds or more when you're away from home.
SMPT2GO is a Worldwide SMPT server for people who are trying (unsuccessfully) to send emails from their laptop, desktop, iPhone or PDA.
It's simple, they say. You just use smtp2go.com as your outgoing mail server and your problems are over.
I hear your heart sinking again... what about all those settings I'll have to change? Will it mess up my existing email?
Stop worrying, say smtp2go.com. Setup takes 2 minutes and involves typing smtp2go.com into your email software's settings. Then you're all ready to send email from anywhere in the world.
The company is growing fast - over 11,000 customers in over 100 countries. 'Because our solution works!' they say.
'Reliable and lightning-fast.'
So lets look at some of the detail. SMTP2Go is an SMTP server that works all the time, wherever you are in the world. The problems you may have experienced are because your Internet Service provider only works when you're connected to the internet through them.
Now some people solve the problem by using a web-based email program such as Hotmail, but there are obvious drawbacks to this (hopping around between systems, confusing customers with a different email address etc). With SMPT2Go you use your normal email account and address.
You can use up to 5 email addresses and send attachments up to 20MB per email.
Sound like what you need but not sure? Well you can join the 7 day free trial (while you're in Guatemala, or Mexico, or China...) to test the service for yourself and you can keep using your existing email software (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Apple Mail etc.)
Pricing plans depend on the amount of emails sent, for example the standard plan allows 50 per day for $1.99 a month or $23.88 a year.
And you won't be bombarded with spam. SMTP2Go operates a strict anti-spam policy and so their servers are 'never blacklisted by anyone'. And in a nice touch, they provide their service free of charge to registered charities around the World.
We like that!
Like any good web-based service, SMTP2Go has an excellent support page with FAQs and troubleshooting tips all clearly written for the layperson not the techie.
'Perfect for travelers,' say Delta Airlines Sky Magazine.
And there are nothing but good reports on the numerous technical forums (full of people asking questions on how they can connect to their server from abroad...)
After a long thread on how to fix a problem, a user advises:
'If nothing else works then you could always try an external SMTP server provider e.g. www.smtp2go.com. You can send emails from any location in the world.'
Now that was easy, wasn't it?
'Works perfectly for me,' said another user.
'How about SMTP2go?' says another in response to a complicated connection problems thread. 'I have used this when overseas and it works great.'
'If you want to send smtp or pop3 email (email sent using outlook or thunderbird clients etc) then you will probably need to subscribe to a service such as smtp2go,' says another.
So, if you want to use your existing email client while away from your home ISP, then this is the answer.
Even if you are happy to use webmail and hotel wifi, 'it is still useful tool,' say Lonely Planet (the travel advice company).
'Many times prior to using smtp2go, I sent emails only to have them bounced back to me because the ip address of my email server and the ip address of my computer did not match (they showed 2 different country codes).'
Forget all that frustration and anxiety over whether your emails get through. Try SMTP free on your next trip.
