A great phone choice that has many options of a tablet but at the cheaper price of a phone instead.
Only available with AT&T and lacks some features.
All in all, it's pretty decent for the price but there are better options on the market.
Does this Samsung Galaxy Note Have What You Need?
It is amazing how you search for one item and when you read through the results, something that you do not expect pops up. That is the case with the Samsung Glaxy Note that I am reviewing here because I was not searching for cell phones but was searching for a new tablet. This came up in the search engine and I was puzzled why until I read the product description and understood exactly how much this phone can actually do. It has more features than some of the tablets and eBook readers I’ve been looking at have offered. Now, the price is on the high side, but when I looked at the product features, I quickly realized it might be well worth it. There are some downsides to this phone too but that comes later. Now, let’s look at what the Samsung Galaxy Note has to offer:
- Unlocked and Can Be Used at AT&T
- Android Operating System, Gingerbread Version
- Comes with S Pen
- Large Screen
- GPS Capabilities
Yes, this seems to have what a lot of phones have today so what makes it so special and why did I decide to review it and perhaps even buy it instead of a new tablet? It is because there is so much more that it offers but the above features are pretty compatible with what a tablet does too. I know what you are thinking, “just tell me why it is so great”.
Why I Think This Phone is so Groovy
Well, first and foremost this is a phone that acts like a tablet in that it has a huge screen but it is not too big to be used as a phone either which brings me to my favorite thing. I can skip getting a tablet, buy this and dump the smart phone I’m using now. That means instead of having to cart around my phone for calls and a tablet to work on, I can do everything from this phone. With the S Pen I can jot down notes or set appointments for my children. When I take a picture, I can add notes to them like where the photo was taken and who is in it. There is also the ability to hook this phone up to a monitor and a Bluetooth keyboard to actually work on it while at home. I had never heard of such a thing and this one of the grooviest features about this phone. It also has a long battery life so I know it will not go dead when I am trying to get some work done while away from home.
Things That Concern Me
Now, nothing this great comes cheap and the price is a little high for this phone but again, it does do a lot and is a pretty great. One huge issue is the fact that it does not come with any kind of warranty so if anything happens to it you are not protected. If I buy this, I will need to purchase insurance for the phone so I don’t lose the value of it altogether. It is also only available with AT&T which is not my current phone carrier so I would need to have a new contract and a new carrier which is not something I was planning on doing. I like the service I get with my current carrier and I have established a relationship with them already. Also, this is the international version of the phone so I may wait until this phone is introduced to the States.
What Other People Think
KSBAY says, “I've purchased it unlocked and since I bought it, I leave my cell phone and tablet at home. I no longer need to carry them round. It was a hassle carrying around my tablet + a stylus for writing notes, my laptop for all the other stuff and a cellphone to make calls. The Galaxy Note replaced my tablet and cell phone in one easy swoop, with no adjustment issues. I still carry my laptop though ( for more demanding work)”
Neil H. added, “he Galaxy Note is an amazing device and I strongly recommend getting one. I flagged this item with one star though since there is no such thing as a U.S. warranty for these devices. Don't believe me, call Samsung and ask them. Samsung U.S. will not handle warranty claims on these devices. Best you can do is buy from an international reseller that will handle the return for you to Samsung Europe or one of their other divisions.”
While I think this is a very neat phone and one I would love to have, I am not purchasing one at this time since it is not for sale here in America yet. I plan on waiting until it is available for all carriers so I do not have to switch to another cell phone provider. Finally, I am hoping that the price comes down a bit before I purchase one. These things usually do after only a few months on the market.
