A grand piano sound for a toy piano price. Buy one!
A grand piano sound - and much more - on a portable keyboard - read on!
Is it really possible?
Check out the the Yahama YPG-235 76-Key portable grand piano for size.
(It certainly won't take up as much space as a real grand piano)
'For those who want more, look no further than the Yamaha YPG-235' say the manufacturers, who, of course, have a great reputations for producing lovely pianos of all varieties.
Featuring 76 non-weighted keys that 'not only look like piano keys but have a Graded Soft Touch (GST) action with different levels of resistance' this is a piano that music students, professional musicians, teachers and newbies will all love.
And this is only one of a huge range of features which will open up the world of music for you. A 6-track sequencer allows you to record your own music (one or multiple instrument parts); you can play in 'full keyboard mode' - which allows the player to play the keyboard like a full piano; plus computer connectivity via USB and Flash ROM; the Yahama Education Suite with 30 built in songs (more on a CD) providing 7 levels of lessons; and, the piece de resistance - the Portable Grand sound: 'industry's best piano.'
One press of the Portable Grand button resets the entire keyboard to a stereo-sampled piano — backed by Yamaha's world wide reputation for sound quality.
'The keyboard sounds great. I've only just begun to play around with it, but the keys feel good, and the variety of quality sounds is incredible,' said one customer.
And for people who dream of, but could never afford, a quality acoustic piano, this product is getting close to their dream.
'Buying a piano was out of the question,' said one buyer. 'This was a great substitute.'
'This keyboard is amazing,' added another. 'I ordered one looking for a substitute for an acoustic piano. I was a little skeptical at first but when I received it and started playing I was pleasantly surprised. There are many different effects and the voices are very realistic.'Which means it's a great family product: the kids can play around with all the effects and the adults can play piano!
'We bought this for our daughter but everyone loved it. It sounds and plays beautifully. But what is so fun was all of the different options to add with different instruments or to play along with one of the songs already recorded. It was wonderful.'
'If you're looking for something affordable and compact I dont see how you can go wrong.'
And these comments is from an exacting and careful buying public.
'I did a lot of research before choosing this keyboard. The value was incredible. The keyboard itself was awesome. I've played at playing the piano and various keyboards for over 50 years...always as a relaxing pastime and never devoting the time and practice needed to get "good". This Yamaha YPG-235 makes me GOOD.'
And much of that is because of Yahama's excellent reputation in both the acoustic and electronic music markets. They have brought all their skills to this keyboard.
'The sounds that I get from the Yamaha is quite expressive and the textures of sounds is magnificent, from piano to strings and beyond. One of the major reasons for my choice to purchase this brand is because of the fact that Yamaha is world known for its popular pianos and Yamaha took every opportunity to relay that experience over to the YPG.'
'This is a fine instrument, bought to replace my Grandmother's acoustic piano that is not worth repairing AGAIN. I love the piano sounds of the Yamaha and what a value having all the other voices also. This is a quality keyboard that my daughter can continue to use for piano but now delve into other sounds.
I found only a few negatives in a slew of great reviews. There is no sustain pedal, which some people missed (although there is an adaptor for one), and no power adaptor. One person reported that the keyboard is not very loud; and another thought that the keys should have some weight and a softer touch when played. However they did add that 'besides that this is perfect for someone whos starting out and perfect for a musician looking for a good electric portable grand piano.'
After all there's not many people who could lug a portable grand around to gigs is there. And one Dad said that the different techniques were hard to figure out 'for me' but 'quite intuitive for my son. I couldn't figure out how to get the drum sound without reading the instructions -- he's been able to get all kinds of sounds going without once looking at the manual.'
With all the different sounds available and the adaptability of this product, this is a great platform to learn or develop from.
For one family, the 'Grand Piano was the hit of Christmas!'
A perfect gift: practical, fun, creative, long-lasting and good value.
Get it on your list for Santa. 'The portable grand setting is just beautiful.'
